Oppo Find X8 Phone Review

Unboxing

Before we get into the details, let’s take a look at the retail packaging of the Oppo Find X8. The phone comes in a simple silver cardboard box with black lettering. The material is thick and sturdy, and the phone has a plastic holder inside.

The Find X8’s accessory package is impressive by modern standards. You get a charger and a relatively short USB Type-A to Type-C cable in white. Additionally, you also get a nice, soft, transparent TPU case for the phone, so you can start using it right away.

It’s worth noting that in Europe, the Find X8 and Oppo Find X8 Pro come without a charger in the box.

Design and Materials

It’s pretty hard to ignore the Apple design inspiration for the Oppo Find X8, not necessarily on the back, where the large circular camera island gives it a unique look. However, the overall shape of the body and the very rounded corners are unmistakably Cupertino.

As long as Apple doesn’t have any issues with this fun tradition, we won’t have any issues either. Plus, as mentioned, the back of the phone is still pretty unique and distinctive. The circular two-tiered camera island stretches out quite a bit and features a lot of writing that resembles real camera technology. We personally think the big HASSELBLAD “H” in the middle of the island is a bit tacky, but that might just be us. Furthermore, we think the camera island pulls off the “camera-inspired” design quite well.

The Find X8’s back panel has a smooth glass finish. You can get the phone in Star Grey, Space Black, or Shell Pink. The Star Grey color we reviewed is a color that looks like metal, titanium, or silver. It’s pretty hard to pinpoint, but it’s also very subtle and neutral, which we kind of like.

Camera Performance

The regular Oppo Find X8 doesn’t have the telephoto dual-camera setup found on the Pro model, but it’s still a solid system, dubbed the “Hasselblad Master Camera System.” It offers a lot of versatility.

Just like the Find X8 Pro, the regular Find X8 has a 50MP main camera. Don’t expect a very powerful hardware, though. The base model uses a Sony LYT-700 sensor instead of the LYT-808. It’s a smaller sensor at 1/1.56 inches.

Thankfully, the lack of a second telephoto lens and a swapped main camera sensor are the only downgrades to the camera setup compared to the Pro model. The 3x zoom telephoto lens is still based on the Sony LYT-600. It’s housed behind a new lens array featuring two prisms, making it more compact.

The wide-angle camera is another 50MP unit based on the Samsung ISOCELL JN5 sensor. It’s a very small sensor at 1/2.76 inches. However, the wide-angle camera has autofocus, making it versatile as it can be used as a macro shooter.

Performance

The Find X8 runs ColorOS 15 with Android 15. Oppo’s software update policy for the Find X8 includes 5 OS versions and 6 years of security updates – which isn’t bad at all.

Oppo says that ColorOS has received a visual overhaul with this release, but what we’re seeing is a minor facelift. The most noticeable thing in daily use is the redesigned quick settings, which are now handled with a “Now playing” widget and the rearrangement of the large bubbles.

Some icon changes are also easily noticeable. However, the Settings menu, for example, has largely remained unchanged in its layout, although the About screen now looks better. The new Flux theme comes with redesigned widgets and icons and new smooth transitions between the Always-On display, the lock screen and the wallpaper.

Conclusion

The phone is characterized by strong capabilities and is worth buying, but we see that the higher version of the phone offers better capabilities with a larger screen size and more space.

Phone Price

The new Oppo Find X8 phone has been priced in the Chinese market for the 256GB version with 12GB RAM at a price equivalent to $590, and the price for the 512GB version with 16GB RAM reaches $700, and the price may vary according to countries and stores.
