Realme 13 Pro+ Phone Review

Realme 13 Pro+ Phone Review

Unboxing

The Realme 13 Pro Plus comes in the usual yellow box with pretty much the usual contents. The cheap gray silicone case is better than most, even if its “leather” texture isn’t the most convincing. The 80W charger (which behaves like a 55W charger in some places) is very welcome, and there’s a USB-A-to-C cable to complete the package.

Design

The Realme 13 Pro Plus comes with a significant design change – the vegan leather of the previous two models is now joined by a glass option. The rest of the design is largely unchanged, with a large circular camera island on the back that draws comparisons to flagship camera phones from sister brands, and a curved display on the front that makes a distinct statement.

The camera island is actually hard to miss – its large diameter and clock-like contours make it look like it’s been taken from the Oppo Find X7 Ultra or OnePlus 12, though the internals aren’t quite up to scratch.

The Realme 13 Pro Plus features a glass back, at least on our review unit. Realme’s wording refers to “Armor Shield Glass with Corning Gorilla Glass 7i” for the display side without explicitly specifying what the back is made of, but it’s glass, all right. It’s very slippery, mind you.

Camera

The Realme 13 Pro Plus makes minor changes in the camera department compared to the Realme 12 Pro Plus, the most noticeable difference being the sensor in the telephoto camera. Also new appears to be the main camera sensor, although the numbers remain the same. The ultrawide and selfie cameras appear to be unchanged.

Realme boasts of using Sony Lytia sensors in the main and telephoto cameras and has the branding printed on the left and right. The LYT-701 in the main camera appears as the IMX 890 in the device apps—just Sony stuff. It’s a reasonably large 1/1.56-inch sensor in a series of proven performance.

The telephoto setup is different, with the 50MP LYT-600 replacing the previous model’s 64MP shooter behind a lens with very similar specifications. This same Sony sensor was used in the primary camera of the Realme 12+ (non-Pro), for example, as well as the main camera of the Realme 13 Pro (non-Plus), so it has some strong credentials.

The ultra-wide camera is a modest package of an 8MP sensor and a fixed-focus lens. On the front, another fixed-focus lens provides light for the 32MP Sony shooter—the Realme 13 Pro Plus loves its Sony devices.

Phone Performance

The Realme 13 Pro Plus runs the current Android 14 operating system, enhanced with Realme UI 5.0, which is practically identical to Oppo’s ColorOS 14 and OnePlus’ OxygenOS 14. The OS/UI numbers were the same as the 12 Pro+, and for general performance, you can read our dedicated Realme UI 5.0 review or check out the video below.

But there’s more this time around, as the Realme 13 Pro Plus design offers a range of AI features. Two of these are system-level and closely interconnected: AI Screen Recognition and the AI Smart Ring.

Realme 13 Pro Plus Features

A distinctive design is available in three colors and has premium build materials.

It’s water and dust resistant, and there’s a protective layer on the front.

The Qualcomm 7s Gen 2 processor delivers good performance.

The camera system is excellent, with a wide variety of features and impressive results in photos and videos.

The battery lasts a long time and there’s a fast charger in the box.

The latest operating system with the new Realme UI 5.0.

The under-display fingerprint sensor is responsive and practical.

The stereo speaker system delivers high-quality sound.

Disadvantages of the Realme 13 Pro Plus

There are more powerful processors in the same category, especially if you’re a fan of performance and gaming.

It doesn’t support eSIM and relies solely on nano-SIMs.

The box doesn’t include headphones/it doesn’t support a 3.5mm port.

Furthermore, you won’t be able to insert a memory card.

The wide-angle camera performs averagely.

Conclusion

For our part, we believe the Realme series won’t offer anything new in the coming period. We believe the Realme 13 Pro Plus is very similar to its smaller sibling, the Realme 12 Pro Plus. If you own the previous generation, you shouldn’t upgrade. We recommend considering other devices in the same category, such as the Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus or the Samsung Galaxy A55, which offers more powerful hardware than similarly specced phones from Realme and Xiaomi.
