The Realme GT 6 falls into the upper-midrange category and aims to offer a premium experience at an affordable price. This review explores the phone’s features and performance across various aspects, including design, display, performance, camera, connectivity, battery, and overall value.
Package Contents
The phone comes in the usual black Realme box, and Realme still includes all the accessories, unlike other companies that only include the charging cable.
The phone comes with the original charger, a premium gray silicone phone case, and a charging cable.
Phone Design
The Realme GT 6 closely resembles the GT 6T, with its curved display edges, rear camera module arrangement, and color options. However, the GT 6 uses a glass back panel, which contributes to a more premium feel. The back panel features a reflective section housing the triple rear camera module, which can also double as a pocket mirror. Unfortunately, this area often attracts fingerprints, smudges, and dust.
The camera placement on one side causes the phone to wobble when placed on its back without the included TPU cover. The phone comes with a TPU cover that exposes the reflective portion of the back panel while protecting the camera module with a raised section.
The front of the phone features a curved display with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection. The tall 6.78-inch display is easy to use, especially with two hands, allowing for comfortable scrolling through apps even with fingers resting on the curved edges. A speaker grill and a USB Type-C port are located on the bottom edge, while the volume and power buttons are located on the right side.
The top edge houses an infrared emitter for controlling home appliances. The sides feature a metallic finish. The GT 6 is available in Fluid Silver and Razor Green color options.
Performance
The phone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 processor and offers ample RAM, making it capable of handling both everyday tasks and heavy applications. When testing demanding games like Genshin Impact and Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile on the highest settings, the phone experienced no lag or overheating, even after an hour of gameplay.
The phone’s built-in gaming mode allows for HDR enhancement, touch response adjustments, and battery saving or performance modes.
Although the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 is a powerful chipset in the upper mid-range segment, it isn’t as powerful as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, especially in terms of graphics performance. The phone also suffers from noticeable slowdowns under heavy load, which can lead to performance drops and overheating.
Gaming Performance
The lack of frame rate caps in games makes the Realme GT 6 suitable for playing demanding Android games.
Camera and Photography Performance
The phone has a triple rear camera setup:
Primary camera: 50MP Sony LYT-808 sensor
Ultra-wide camera: 8MP Sony IMX355 sensor
Telephoto camera: 50MP Samsung JN5 sensor
The phone also has a 32MP front-facing selfie camera.
The primary camera captures clear images with accurate colors, and zooming in reveals ample detail when there is sufficient light. The camera performs well in low-light scenarios, and a dedicated night mode produces brighter images in less than a second. The telephoto camera delivers detailed images without requiring you to get too close to the subject.
The ultra-wide camera produces lower-resolution images with darker tones compared to the primary camera, and there is noticeable distortion around the edges. Low-light performance is inferior to the primary camera.
The front camera can capture detailed selfies after disabling the “beautification” features. Selfies look good in good lighting conditions but become slightly blurry in low-light settings.
The Realme GT 6 can record Dolby Vision videos at up to 4K/30fps using the primary and telephoto cameras. Videos captured with the front camera are acceptable during the day but suffer from a significant drop in quality at night.
Camera advantage and disadvantage
Camera advantage
The primary and telephoto cameras capture high-quality images with good detail and color accuracy.
Dolby Vision video recording is supported.
A dedicated Night Mode improves low-light photography.
Camera disadvantage
The wide-angle camera’s performance is disappointing, with lower resolution, darker images, and edge distortion.
The front camera struggles in low-light conditions.
Battery
The 5,500mAh battery offers long-lasting performance. In our battery cycle test, it lasted 21 hours and 7 minutes with normal usage.
The phone supports 120W SuperVOOC fast charging, achieving a full charge in approximately 29 minutes using the included charger. Although it features a glass back, the phone does not support wireless charging.
Conclusion
The Realme GT 6 is a mid-range phone that offers solid performance, an excellent display, and a long-lasting battery. However, it suffers from some issues, such as average wide-angle camera performance and overheating with heavy use. If you’re looking for a powerful phone with smooth performance and a good display, the Realme GT 6 may be a good choice for you. However, if camera quality is your priority, you may want to consider other options.
